RE: How many has God killed?
I am not judging God. I am only stating the obvious based entireley on content from the Bible itself. Men from 2000 years ago held on to power by using fear to control the people. What better fear can exist than from an invisible all-mighty God that is ready to kill you for even the slightest infringement towards authority.
In this day & age, in the year 2015, are we still so naive as to believe that an all perfect God will kill for stupid reasons such as killing 40 children for being immature and teasing a bald man. How many of us have teased someone else as children? How many children today tease others about immature things such as being bald, being disabled, being a different race/skin color, etc.? It's a normal part of growing up and learning about respect and tolerance. Eventually we grow up and realize we were being immature and usually regret the pain that was caused by our hurtful actions. Children certainly don't deserve to die a violent death just for teasing someone, such as this passage from your very own Christian Bible... Killing mis-behaving children: From there Elisha went up to Bethel. While he was on his way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him. "Go up baldhead," they shouted, "go up baldhead!" The prophet turned and saw them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two shebears came out of the woods and tore forty two of the children to pieces. (2 Kings 2:23-24 NAB) Here are some more stupid reasons that God killed for... God Kills the Curious And he smote of the men of Beth-shemesh, because they had looked into the ark of Jehovah, he smote of the people seventy men, `and' fifty thousand men; and the people mourned, because Jehovah had smitten the people with a great slaughter. And the men of Beth-shemesh said, Who is able to stand before Jehovah, this holy God? and to whom shall he go up from us? (1Samuel 6:19-20 ASV) Killed by a Lion Meanwhile, the LORD instructed one of the group of prophets to say to another man, "Strike me!" But the man refused to strike the prophet. Then the prophet told him, "Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, a lion will kill you as soon as you leave me." And sure enough, when he had gone, a lion attacked and killed him. (1 Kings 20:35-36 NLT) Killing the Good Samaritan The ark of God was placed on a new cart and taken away from the house of Abinadab on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab guided the cart, with Ahio walking before it, while David and all the Israelites made merry before the Lord with all their strength, with singing and with citharas, harps, tambourines, sistrums, and cymbals. When they came to the threshing floor of Nodan, Uzzah reached out his hand to the ark of God to steady it, for the oxen were making it tip. But the Lord was angry with Uzzah; God struck him on that spot, and he died there before God. (2 Samuel 6:3-7 NAB) Now obviously God is not so petty as to kill for these stupid reasons. What is more likely is that these are horror stories made up to put fear into people. Imagine for example, the fear that would be instilled in children when told of the story of the 40 children that were violently torn apart by bears because they teased a bald man. What child would dare tease another after seeing that story written in the Bible itself? The Bible is meant to be factual and the inspired word of God. No one is suppose to question it, but just blindly obey it. In other words, you have the perfect tool to control people using fear and bribes (i.e. death or promises of going to heaven). I'm not saying God is not real. In fact I believe in an almighty God that created the universe. I just don't believe that men from 2000 years ago had God's authority to write the Bible, and I truly beleive that they used God's name to create a book to help them keep the masses well behaved, while keeping themselves in power. This makes sense for that time because imagine how much cheaper it would be to instill fear rather than funding a police force to maintain law & order. No one steals because they will go to Hell. No one kills because it is a sin and God will punish you severely. See what I mean - it's just so much cheaper to introduce fear rather than introduce an expensive police force. Please people. Let's move on from these childish beliefs, and lets start to honor and believe the real God that loves us and hates killing. Not that blood-thirsty imposter that's depicted in the Bible, created by small-minded men of the past. |
